Adán

I extend my hand to a Honduran. ¿Cómo se llama? "What is your name?" I ask.

They respond, then ask me for mine.

Adán.

Upon the statement of my name, exactly 73% of Hondurans follow with a specific question. I will buy an ice cream cone for the first person who can correctly guess which question that is.

I´m looking for an inquiry that, for some reason, Hondurans specifically ask of me. "Where are you from?" "What are you doing here?" or questions of that nature do not qualify.

If necessary, I will give a hint in a couple days.

  1. If you were in Thailand it would be "what did you eat/ what will you eat/ what are you eating?" For some reason that's a normal question to ask before "how are you","where are you from" etc, even among strangers meeting in a food-less context.

But i'm hoping it's something along the lines of "...and where is Eve?"

  2. Yeah, I'm kind of thinking it has to do with your name and some kind of Biblical reference: I would be willing to bet their response has the word "Eva" in it. Like something along the lines of "¿Tienes novia que se llama Eva?" Or maybe it's something like "¿Y de dónde vienes? ¿De Edén?"

  3. Ice cream cone for Kym!!! Indeed, upon hearing my name the Honduran question seems to be "Where is Eve?" Responses vary.

Adán is not a common name here in Honduras, which might explain why people want to know about Eva.

David you get points for creativity. I have gotten a few inquiries about Edén. Maybe a kiddie cone for you.

  4. I'm not too surprised. Adán isn't nearly as common as a name as Adam is, so I suppose the first thing people would think of would be the Bible story. Look on the bright side, at least you don't have a name like "Bush" or something that could cause all kinds of negative comments.
